Need: Lent 2025

Here we are again. Another Lent. Another wilderness wandering. Another start to reflecting on the world via my very sporadic writings. It seems Lent has been the time I feel most compelled to write. Perhaps because of the introspective nature of the season. Maybe it’s just the experience of taking the United Methodist Photo-A-Day challenge and turning it into a post. All I know is here we are again and here I go again.

Day 19: Need

Opening Windows

Protecting the inside from the outside,
Guarding the slow-movers who pace about the halls,
The window shivers and shakes when the wind blows
But unopened it weathers the weather.

Is this what windows are for?
Standing between us and the harsh world.
Is this the purpose that keeps them closed?
Keeping the whispering Wind from telling its tales.

Certainly there is a time to protect,
To stand in the way of dangerous forces.
What about when the danger passes?
What about when the danger is what we need?

Windows sealed shut whether by accident or intention,
Grow cobwebs;
Dusty webs.
False filaments mimicking the spider’s art.

Open the windows.
Smell the rain before and after the storm.
Listen to the whispering Wind
Inviting you to new life.
