If we think about a gift as something given from one person to another, what is the best gift you ever received? What is the best gift you have ever given?
I suspect there is a thread that runs though all really great gifts. Isn’t it thoughtfulness?
Sure there can be random gifts that are fun to give and which are received with joy, but the best gifts, I find they come from a heart that connects with the heart of another. This is not to say a gift need be expensive or extravagant. In fact, in my life, I have most appreciated the gifts which simply communicate the giver was thinking of me.
This is a cherry limeade. This is a favorite candy bar. This is a rubber chicken toy. This is a t-shirt in your favorite color.
The gift I most want to give and the one I most want to receive is one that says, “I know you and I know what you love. I want you to know that I see you.”
I have room to grow in this. Perhaps we all do. Maybe this is the gift of twirling around on this blue marble hurtling through space; we get to practice the giving and receiving of good gifts.
Life is better together,
