go: Red Letter Challenge

And just like that, the Red Letter Challenge comes to an end.

Or does it?

If the point of the challenge was to practice the practices of Jesus, then I suggest the journey continues.

After all, Jesus’ commission to the disciples was not, “Good job, fellas. I’m going to head back up to Heaven. Good luck down here. Thanks for the memories. Hope you figure out something to do with the rest of your lives.”

No. Jesus did not endure the cross so that we could go back to “business as usual.”

So, this Easter, I reread Jesus’ actual commission…

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20

Go. Make Disciples. Baptize. Teach.

This is why the tomb is empty. This is why we celebrate Jesus’ victory over sin and death. This is the hope of the world. This is the life we are invited to participate in.

Go. Take the message with you wherever you go.

Go. Share the Good News in ways people can understand.

Go. Keep at this crazy, wild life even when you just feel like going back to “fishing” (whatever your fishing is).

Do not get stuck trying to memorialize the past three years (or whatever period of time was your must significant). Do not sit down and mourn what is no longer. Do not fall asleep hoping someone else will do what only you can do while you dream of a different life.

No, go and keep going knowing Jesus will be with you and me and us every stumbling step of the way.

Go and take some friends along with you.
